Nell :- The Whistle Blower

Created by Paul one month ago

Nell was My "second mum" She kept me fed and watered almost as much as my own mum in my late teens and early twenties!

My favorite story of Nell came at a time when " Dirty phone calls" were becoming commonplace in the late Seventies. Nell decided She would be ready for any such calls and positioned a loud Shrill whistle by the phone just in case. Also at this time Alan and I were getting into the keep fit culture and alongside our many sporting prowess's we had taken to jogging. One Saturday we went on a longer jog over towards the city and decided to have a pub lunch instead of jogging back to Nell's to eat. Alan decided to give his mum a call to make sure she didn't prepare us any food, Alas both of us were not as fit as we wanted to be and were out of breath at this point. We found a phone box and as the call connected a few deep breaths came out, The next instance a deafening shrill lit up the Capital with Dogs 7 cats running away in terror, We just managed to call out to her before the phone went down, I often wonder if that's where the tinnitus came from!
